The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Minor provides an opportunity for students to explore a teaching and/or training career in their specific field. CTE teachers and workforce trainers are subject matter experts with knowledge in professional education teaching methods. The coursework in this Minor is relevant and individualized to each student's field of study using the Florida Department of Education's guided by professional teaching standards.

These courses may also be used as part of the minimum Florida State hiring and certification requirements for full-time, non-degreed teachers of career programs, according to For additional CTE teacher and/or trainer hiring requirements, please review the hiring organization's job description posting as it differs regionally and nationally. This Minor is not an initial teacher certification at the state level.

Minor Admission Requirements

• A minimum overall GPA of 2.5 is required.

UCF Online students that are seeking a minor or certificate may only enroll in programs that are available fully online.

  • ECT3062 - Professional Roles of the Career & Technical Teacher (3)

  • ECT4004 - Principles and Practices of Technical Education (3)
  • ECT3367 - Evaluation of Career & Technical Education Instruction (3)

• At least 15 hours used in the minor must be earned at UCF within the department.
• A grade of "C" (2.0) or better must be achieved in each course used for this Minor.

• No credit by exam (TSD, Military credit) may be used.
